According to newly revealed federal data, thousands of illegal immigrants roaming free are convicted of sexual assault, homicide, and other serious criminal charges.
The newly revealed federal data shows over 662,000 non-citizens with criminal histories are on Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) national docket as of July 21, 2024. Of these, 435,719 are convicted criminals, while another 226,847 have pending charges. This alarming number includes serious offenders like 13,099 convicted of homicide and 15,811 convicted of sexual assault. Despite these records, only 14,994 of those with convictions or pending charges are currently detained by ICE.
Texas Representative Tony Gonzales raised concerns after receiving the data, sending it to the Daily Caller, highlighting the strain on ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in dealing with such a vast number of criminal non-citizens.
ICE Deputy Director Patrick Lechleitner acknowledged the difficulties, stating that despite limited resources, ICE continues to prioritize the removal of those who pose the greatest public safety risks. However, ICE’s efforts are being hindered by sanctuary cities, which have denied over 23,000 detainer requests since October 2020, allowing criminals to remain at large.
The data reveals the deep challenges faced by ICE as it grapples with a broken immigration system, further complicated by local jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with federal authorities, leaving dangerous criminals in the U.S.
