Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot during a scheduled appearance at Utah Valley University on Tuesday, university officials confirmed.
The incident occurred about 20 minutes into Kirk’s presentation for his American Comeback Tour. Witnesses reported hearing a shot from a nearby building. A university spokesperson said Kirk was the only person hit and was quickly removed from the premises by his security team as the courtyard was evacuated.
Videos circulating on social media appear to show Kirk recoiling in his chair as a shot rang out. The footage shows blood running from his neck as panicked audience members fled the scene.
The FBI said it is monitoring the incident closely. “Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected,” FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X. “Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
Vice President JD Vance urged the public to “say a prayer” for Kirk, echoing calls for support from conservative leaders. Utah Senator Mike Lee also said he was “praying for Charlie Kirk.”
Kirk was hosted on campus by the Utah Valley University chapter of Turning Point USA. The national tour is billed as a series of events designed to highlight conservative values on college campuses.
