Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Brian Hagedorn responds to Lake Country Classical Academy controversy involving a denied Turning Point USA chapter that sparked an Oct. 10 letter from Principal Margaret Hagedorn explaining the school’s decision.
The Waukesha County school is defending it’s club policy which prohibits student clubs affiliated with outside political or religious organizations. In the letter signed by Principal Hagedorn, she described the matter as an active conversation with Turning Point USA (TPUSA). Hagedorn emphasized that while there is “common ground” between TPUSA’s mission and the values of Lake Country Classical Academy (LCCA), they must “apply [their] own club policy consistently”.
Later in the letter, Hagedorn addresses potential claims of viewpoint discrimination over the rejection of a proposed TPUSA student club, calling it “completely false.” (RELATED: Maria Lazar Announces Candidacy for Wisconsin Supreme Court 2026)
Margaret Hagedorn is the wife of Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Brian Hagedorn, who responded to criticism of the school’s decision by a TPUSA representative on X. The Wisconsinite and national enterprise director for TPUSA, Brett Galaszewski, wrote in a post on X with accompanying screenshots, saying: “🚨 Another @TPUSA chapter has been DENIED in Wisconsin.” Justice Hagedorn responded to Galaszewski, clarifying that the denial was not due to the viewpoints of the organization.
Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and current president of Young America’s Foundation, responded to Galaszewski on X saying, “They should absolutely be able to have a chapter.” The former governor added that he reached out to several board members at LCCA to seek approval for the campus chapter.
LCCA is a Hillsdale College Member School. Larry P. Arnn, president of Hillsdale College in Michigan, was among the list of individuals who spoke at the memorial for TPUSA co-founder Charlie Kirk. (RELATED: Shutdown Showdown: Democrats Refuse to Deal)
The debate among parents and members of the community highlights the challenges schools like LCCA face in balancing policies that encourage debate and free speech, while preventing malicious actors who abuse those policies and distort the school’s founding values.
