On Monday, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, the illegal Mexican migrant from the Hannah Dugan case, pleaded and was sentenced on his charges of battery.
Flores-Ruiz was arrested on battery charges after he was accused of beating his roommate in their apartment on West Vliet after an argument over the volume of music in March. Flores-Ruiz reportedly hit his roommate in the head over two dozen times, and choked him out for multiple seconds.
Flores-Ruiz was the central piece in the nationally recognized Hannah Dugan case. Dugan, was accused of obstructing a federal agency when she was assisting Flores-Ruiz from evading immigration authorities. (RELATED: Democrats Target Wisconsin’s Steil and Van Orden in National Redistricting Wars)
Judge Dugan was then arrested in the following days, as video surfaced of Judge Dugan redirecting the immigration officers and trying to create a pathway from Flores-Ruiz to escape out of the court house. Judge Dugan also was reportedly “visibly angry” in her chambers when she was alerted of the federal officers presence.
One of the officers remained behind and returned to his post and saw Flores-Ruiz and his attorney walking out of the building toward the elevator bank. The officers then followed them out of the building where Flores-Ruiz was arrested.
Flores-Ruiz entered an “Alford Plea” of no contest, which means the defendant maintains his innocence, with the acknowledgment that the prosecution likely has mounting evidence to lead to a conviction. (RELATED: Wisconsin Professors Condemn Kirk Assassination, Demand Free Speech Protections)
The reserve judge, David Feiss, issued the maximum sentence of 9 months with time already served to Flores-Ruiz. Flores-Ruiz will also face his ruling in immigration court for illegal entry into the U.S. later this month.
Judge Hannah Duagn’s trial will begin on December 15th, as she has entered a plea of not guilty, and her motion to dismiss under judicial immunity was overruled.
