A spate of anti-cop violence in Texas has raised concerns over the national temperature surrounding immigration as one police officer was shot in the neck on Friday and another was ambushed in McAllen, Texas on Monday.
In the North Texas incident, officers were called to a scene outside of the ICE Prairieland Detention Facility, on a report of a suspicious person. Upon their arrival, they encountered an individual carrying a firearm and attempted to engage with them and were fired upon by an unknown number of individuals. One officer was struck in the neck and rushed to a Fort Worth hospital, where they were treated and eventually released in stable condition. A number of suspects wearing body armor were arrested in connection to the violent attack. Participants in the attack were found with a flag reading “Resist fascism, fight oligarchy”.
On Monday, an active shooter attempted to raid a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas. The assailant was gunned down, but not before a McAllen police officer was struck by a bullet in what law enforcement officers called a ‘purposeful ambush’.
“This morning an individual opened fired at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement to Fox News. “This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI. More information will be shared as it becomes available.”
