On Thursday, the Trump administration announced a crackdown on all 55 million foreign visas issued in the United States. This move comes as the administration’s latest effort to weed out expired visas and deport illegal aliens.
Any immigrants holding US visas found with “indicators of overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization” will have their permits to live in the US revoked and be deported, the State Department announced Thursday.
In a written answer to a question from The Associated Press, the State Department said that all U.S. Visa holders, even tourists, are subject to “continuous vetting” to monitor any deportable offenses. (RELATED: Immigration Raids Land Prominent Democratic Donor in Hot Water)
“We review all available information as part of our vetting, including law enforcement or immigration records or any other information that comes to light after visa issuance indicating a potential ineligibility,” said the State Department.
The move by the Trump administration is the second major move against visas this week. On Monday, the State Department revoked over 6,000 student visas. Of the 6,000 rescinded student visas, around 4,000 were because the holder broke the law, a department spokesman told The New York Post, with the “vast majority” of the crimes committed included assault, DUI and burglary.
Secretary Rubio also announced “Effective immediately we are pausing all issuance of worker visas for commercial truck drivers. The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers,” via his X page on Thursday.
