A University of Wisconsin-Madison professor is one among many people under fire this morning for her comments related to the gruesome murder of conservative political activist and influencer Charlie Kirk.
Sami Schalk, an Associate Professor in the Department of Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, attacked Turning Point USA on Bluesky, claiming that the organization made a ‘watch list’ of professors that resulted in her receiving death threats.
She capped off her post by using a ‘shrug’ emoji in response to Kirk’s horrifying death that was witnessed by hundreds of students and Kirk’s own family.
Schalk was prominently featured in a video ‘twerking’ with pop star Lizzo and has since written multiple articles about performing the popular dance move as a part of ‘pleasure activism’.
Others at UW-Madison escalated Schalk’s rhetoric, with students who have not yet been identified scrawling ‘Charlie Kirk is dead’ with a heart under it on the campuses sidewalk. (RELATED: Engraved Ammunition with Transgender, Antifascist Messages Found in Rifle Linked to Charlie Kirk Shooting)
Responses to Kirk’s death have been polarizing as numerous prominent figures on the American left began disparaging the Turning Point USA founder within hours or minutes of being brutally murdered.
MSNBC pundit Matthew Dowd was reportedly fired this morning after he made comments in the immediate aftermath of Kirk’s death that many believe were callous and blamed Kirk for the tragic incident, with Dowd saying that Kirk should have expected ‘awful actions’ to happen to him as a result of ‘hate speech’.
Other academics also weighed in on Kirk’s death in a way that many are calling uncaring or callous. Lydia Fettig, a professor and academic advisor at the University of Michigan said that Kirk’s murder was ‘prudent and rational’, citing his support for gun rights.
