On Thursday, Students at Middleton High School were pressured to reveal their political affiliations on a hallway board—where some who identified as conservative said they were mocked and even compared to “Nazis.”
Vicki McKenna posted two photos on Thursday via her X account, displaying a large board in a hallway with a political spectrum and sticky notes on them.
According to McKenna, the board was used as an assignment, where kids were required to use sticky notes to denote their political affiliation on the spectrum using the color of the note.
The slips were written on the back with 3 major issues they wanted to resolve, and why. The students were then called up one by one and had to explain their choices in front of the class.
One anonymous girl refused to partake in the activity because she felt uncomfortable displaying her political beliefs to the entire school and the teacher. The girl also heard multiple comments referring to the people who used the red papers as “Nazis” while they pointed at the board.
The teacher, Andrew Hartman, dismissed the claims saying the comments made were “not true” and the student was still required to complete the assignment because it was “a part of the class.” (RELATED: Mississippi Model Fuels Education Gains as Federal Department of Education Faces Scrutiny)
The girl was “shaking” going into her next class because she felt so “intimidated” by the teacher’s pressure to out herself.
