Over the weekend, the Republican Party of Wisconsin held their 2026 convention, and released a slew of nominations for the upcoming fall state election, including their pick for Governor and Lieutenant Governor.
The Wisconsin GOP face a significant opportunity this year to retake seats and maintain a majority as the state senate, assembly, supreme court, and governor’s office are all up for grabs in November. Since both Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Governor Tony Evers announced they will be retiring after this next election, influential seats will run without an incumbent this year.
The RPW endorsed incumbent John Leiber to run for State Treasurer. Leiber has been in office since 2022 and has won two elections. Nate Pollow earned the RPW endorsement for Secretary of State. Pollow, beef farmer and small business owner, won his endorsement unanimously from the delegates in the RPW. As the next Secretary of State, I’ll clean up Madison, bring transparency to our government, and hold the politicians accountable,” said Pollow in his acceptance speech.
The RPW endorsed the Attorney General spot to Fond Du Lac District Attorney, Eric Toney. “Together, we are going to put public safety over politics and bring conservative, common-sense leadership back to the Department of Justice,” said Toney in his acceptance. Toney will run against incumbent Josh Kaul, whom Toney has publicly criticized for his poor performance as AG.
“After nearly eight years, Josh Kaul’s record of broken promises speaks for itself. He promised to fix the crime labs; the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau confirmed they are slower, testing fewer items, with longer DNA turnaround times than when he started,” said Toney.
Finally, the RPW endorsed Will Martin for Lieutenant Governor, and Tom Tiffany for Governor. Martin has previously ran for the LG spot in 2022, but fell short in the primaries. Martin has also served in the Walker and Thompson administrations in the past.
Tiffany earned his nomination from a unanimous decision from the delegates. Tiffany has also pledged to bring “common sense” back to Madison. “Do you want four more years of decline? Do you want a socialist who will abolish the police? Do you want higher taxes, more government and less freedom? No we don’t,” said Tiffany at the convention.
Tiffany was also endorsed for governor by President Trump earlier this year. “He will fight to advance Common Sense Values, and put WISCONSIN, AND AMERICA, FIRST,” said Trump as he praised Tiffany on his TruthSocial page.
