U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany has won the Republican nomination for the governor’s race, finalizing a long road of support going into the general election.
As of Tuesday evening, Tiffany was leading against his opponent Andy Manske with 96.5% of the vote. The margin capped a race Tiffany had dominated for months. A Marquette Law School Poll found Tiffany supported by 67% of Republican primary voters, compared with 2% for Manske, while 30% remained undecided.
In 2025, Tiffany entered when there was a more competitive GOP field. Businessman Bill Berrien left the race days later, while Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann remained Tiffany’s most serious Republican challenger. (RELATED:)
Schoemann dropped out less than a day later after President Trump endorsed Tiffany. His exit cleared Tiffany’s path to the nomination. In May, delegates at the Republican Party of Wisconsin convention unanimously endorsed Tiffany, and by mid-July his campaign had reported raising more than $8.7 million.
Tiffany says affordability is a central focus of his campaign. He has promised to freeze property taxes and repeal the school revenue-limit increase created by Governor Tony Evers’ so-called “400-year veto.” Evers used his partial veto in 2023 to extend a $325-per-student annual increase in school district revenue limits through 2425.
Tiffany has pledged to use Wisconsin’s budget surplus for tax relief. He is looking to lower electricity costs by expanding reliable baseload energy production and cut regulations he argues increase the cost of housing, child care and health care. Earlier this year, Senate Democrats voted down legislation to give the surplus back to the taxpayers which included rebates and school funding. The bill also included the cessation of state taxes on overtime and tips. (RELATED:)
Tiffany’s other goals include: a ban on sanctuary cities, increase resources for law enforcement, rolling back policies that allow repeat offenders back onto the streets and requiring able-bodied adults without children to work to receive welfare benefits.
He has also pledged to protect girls’ sports and locker rooms based on biological sex, prevent China from purchasing Wisconsin farmland and protect hunting and fishing rights. Tiffany has also been outspoken about data centers, saying he’ll place restrictions on where they can build and give local communities a voice in the decision.
