As the 2026 midterm elections draw closer, Wisconsin Democrats are touting a new project built to maintain control of the Governor’s office.
The initiative, named the “Wisconsin Governor Readiness Project”, will be used to raise money and push out messaging to voters before the party selects its nominee in an August primary.
“The campaign infrastructure that we will build over the next year will be vital to electing our next Democratic governor,” Evers said Monday. “The WisDems was a critical partner in my re-election campaign, and just like four years ago, I’m going to be fighting like hell alongside Chair (Devin) Remiker to ensure that Wisconsin has a governor who will always stand up for the people of our state.”
The initiative was announced as numerous high-profile Republicans announced their entry into the race, with Representative Tom Tiffany, R-WI. kicking off his campaign last week. (RELATED: Class Action Lawsuit Filed in Aftermath of Madison Discarding Nearly 200 Ballots)
Tiffany immediately drew fire from Democratic campaign arms after entering the race, with Democratic strategists saying that they will need an ‘aggressive’ messaging strategy against him from the outset and one calling him the “immediate front-runner” for the nomination.
Republicans in Wisconsin saw a relatively successful 2024 election, electing President Donald Trump and drawing close with incumbent Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin, but the Wisconsin Republican Party recognized that they struggle to turn out voters in midterm elections.
“If the other side is motivated, energized, we’ll lose,” said Republican State Treasurer John Leiber. “We have to treat every single election in this state from now on as a high-turnout election, and approach it as such.” (RELATED: GOP Figures Warn: Institutions Turning Blind Eye to Attacks on Conservatives)
