Gubernatorial nominee Tom Tiffany is shifting his campaign into general election form with a message centered around affordability.
Tiffany unveiled an eight-point affordability agenda Tuesday that focuses heavily on cutting taxes, reducing household expenses and limiting the ability of state and local governments to raise costs. The proposal comes just weeks after Tiffany overwhelmingly secured the Republican nomination for governor and as polling shows economic concerns remain near the top of Wisconsin voters’ priorities.
Tiffany’s “Keep More of Your Hard-Earned Money” agenda would lower and eventually freeze property taxes, provide a 10% state income-tax cut for working families earning less than $150,000 and eliminate state income taxes on tips and overtime. Tiffany also wants to return Wisconsin’s budget surplus to taxpayers. (RELATED:Federal Investigation Puts MPS Discipline Failures Back Under Scrutiny)
In the recent Marquette Law Poll, 81% of registered voters surveyed said grocery prices had increased over the previous six months, while the same percentage reported higher gasoline prices. About 69% said they expect inflation to increase over the next year.
Tiffany has increasingly contrasted his proposals with Crowley’s record as Milwaukee County executive, mentioning increases in Milwaukee County taxes and outgoing Governor Tony Evers’ property tax increase.
During Tiffany’s time in Congress, he has supported affordability plans that he claims will directly impact working American families. Most notably, Tiffany helped pass the “The One Big Beautiful Bill” which included deductions on tip/overtime income, lower individual tax rates, and a permanent 20% qualified business income deduction for many small businesses. Tiffany also cosponsored the “American Family Housing Act,” that was aimed to prevent large institutional investors from purchasing additional single-family homes. He claims that ordinary families should not have to compete against Wall Street investors to find a home. During Tiffany’s time in Congress, he has sponsored similar cost-cutting legislation that he is campaigning on bringing to Wisconsin.
