Madison Bergmann, a 24-year-old Wisconsin teacher, has been charged with first-degree child sexual assault of a child under age 13 for allegedly engaging in inappropriate behavior with an 11-year-old student in her classroom.
According to reports, Bergmann is accused of moving the victim’s desk next to hers to touch him during class without the other students noticing. The boy also revealed to the police that Bergmann would have him stay after class, where she allegedly kissed him several times, according to the New York Post.
Bergmann’s case has garnered attention due to the disturbing details surrounding her actions. The boy’s family had become friendly with Bergmann, even going on a ski trip to Afton Alps, a nearby resort, where Bergmann obtained the boy’s phone number.
The inappropriate relationship was discovered after the boy’s mother overheard a troubling phone call and alerted the boy’s father. Upon reading the text messages exchanged between Bergmann and the boy, the father found texts indicating a romantic and sexual interest from Bergmann towards the child.
In one of the messages, Bergmann expressed her desire to “just grab [the boy’s] face and push him to the floor and make out with him.” In another text, she told him that he “turns her on” and that she is “obsessed” with him. The boy’s parents found a folder with the victim’s name on it in Bergmann’s backpack, which contained handwritten letters expressing similar sentiments.
Bergmann is currently free on a $25,000 bond and has been ordered to stay off school property and refrain from attending school events. She has also disabled her social media accounts. The case has shocked the community, with other students’ parents expressing disbelief and concern.
Bergmann was set to be married later this year. Her fiance has called off the wedding indefinitely.
