Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald won reelection in Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District on Tuesday, defeating Democrat Andy Beck, according to AP
.
AP projected the outcome at with 59% of the estimated vote counted, Fitzgerald had 220,990 votes, compared with Beck’s 153,277, according to AP.
The result keeps the seat in Republican hands. The 5th covers the suburbs and exurbs between Madison and Milwaukee, including Waukesha, West Bend and all of Jefferson County, and is among the most Republican districts in the state.
Fitzgerald, a former newspaper publisher who led Republicans in the state Senate as majority leader from 2013 to 2021, campaigned on opposing abortion, defending gun rights and pushing back against what his campaign calls “radical liberals pushing socialism.”
Beck, a West Bend resident and first-time candidate who worked as an MRI technologist and in product development for GE Healthcare, emphasized good-paying jobs, workers’ rights and anti-corruption reforms, and was endorsed by the Wisconsin AFL-CIO.
Fitzgerald won the seat in 2020 after Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner retired, and he has never won a congressional race by fewer than 20 points. In 2024, he beat Democrat Ben Steinhoff with 64.5% of the vote.
Fitzgerald will begin a new term on Jan. 3, 2027.
