Democratic U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan won an eighth term in Wisconsin’s 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday, running without a Republican opponent, according to AP.
AP projected the outcome with 100% of the estimated vote counted, Pocan had 298,359 total votes.
The result keeps the Madison-area seat in Democratic hands. The 2nd District was the only one of Wisconsin’s eight where Republicans did not field a candidate this year, which effectively settled the race when Pocan won the Aug. 11 Democratic primary over Douglas Alexander.
Pocan, who represented Madison in the state Assembly for 14 years before winning the seat in 2012, is among the House’s most progressive Democrats. He said he would use his committee positions to aggressively investigate the Trump administration.
Pocan won reelection in 2024 with 70.1% of the vote over Republican Erik Olsen. The district covers much of southern Wisconsin, including Madison, Baraboo and Dodgeville, and Pocan succeeded now-U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin in the seat.
Pocan will begin a new term on Jan. 3, 2027.
