Last week, the controversial Minocqua Brewing Company had product seized by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, regarding the company’s taxes.
The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) seized about $25,000 worth of canned beer from Minocqua Brewing Company taprooms in the Minocqua and Madison area. The seizure was a part of an investigation into Minocqua Brewing’s possession of proper permits and had paid the required Wisconsin taxes on beer tied to out-of-state production.
The state alleged that beer was illegally transported from Illinois into Wisconsin. Owner Kirk Bangstad sent a message out to his supporters on June 12th, informing them of the seized product. Bangstad failed to pay taxes in Wisconsin on Illinois-brewed beer he sold and stored in Madison and Minocqua. (RELATED: UW Regents Approve Fourth Straight Tuition Increase Despite New State Funding)
Bangstad claimed that he is working to come into compliance and the DOR’s “lack of leniency in allowing us to come into compliance borders on malicious harassment.” He also claimed in his response that this was retaliation from Governor Evers from Bangstad’s past criticism of the Governor’s actions.
“I’ve been very critical of Corporate Democrat Tony Evers over the last year for not being proactive in stopping Trump’s regime from abusing Wisconsonites, and based my candidacy for Governor on forcing him to protect our upcoming elections from Trump’s slow burning nationwide coup,” Bandstand wrote in his response.
In May, Bangstad had announced a run for governor after being interviewed by federal agents over comments he made following an alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. Bangstad has also been known for his past Assembly run, anti-Trump activism, and politically themed beers. (RELATED: Marquette Poll Shows Broad Support for Failed Wisconsin Surplus Package)
Bangstad’s controversial stances have led to the distancing from the Wisconsin Democrats from support for Bangstad. Despite previous support from current candidates, Bangstad’s inflammatory comments about the Attempted Trump Assassination amongst other issues have led to his expulsion from Wisconsin Democratic politics.
