Recently, an independent candidate for the gubernatorial election posted a video of himself removing political yard signs from lawns in the Milwaukee area.
Carlos LeMar Dixon, a write-in candidate, posted a video this week showing himself pulling campaign signs from lawns in the Riverwest neighborhood and east side. The signs being removed were from State Rep. Francesca Hong’s gubernatorial campaign, and State Rep. Ryan Clancy’s reelection campaign. Both candidates have ties to the Democratic Socialists of America, which Dixon criticized while explaining his reasoning for removing the signs.
Dixon later posted another video showing him removing more signs, saying that he would continue, even if ordered to stop by law enforcement. He continued on to say he “doesn’t care about the opinions of the police.” When asked if he felt he broke any laws he responded with, “I’ve read the law and I don’t actually find that I’ve broken any laws,” Dixon said. “Laws are meant to be, I guess, interpreted.” He also created a post saying, “be grateful that all I want is yard signs and not their heads.” (RELATED:Wisconsin Senate Democrats Reject $1.8 Billion Tax Relief and School Funding Bill)
Dixon, believes that these candidates do not go far enough into their socialist agenda. Dixon, via a phone interview on Thursday, said he lives in Riverwest and is “deeply passionate” about advocating for socialism and the working class, and is running on a campaign of anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism. When referring to the candidates, Dixon said, “We need real people to stand up for us and not bargain with capitalists.”
Despite these comments, Hong isn’t bargaining with millionaires, she is going after them as well as people who are well below. Hong introduced legislation that would significantly raise the income tax bracket, making Wisconsin the 9th highest income tax state. She would raise the bracket on joint filers making more than 750k yearly to 17.7%, 4% higher than California’s.
The population of billionaires in Wisconsin who would suffer from tax increases is relatively small and would only be small businesses who file as individuals, pass-throughs, and S-corps, rather than corporations. 80% of small businesses file this way, hurting small businesses more than she is hurting the billionaires. In response, neither Clancy, nor Hong’s campaign will be pressing charges despite their condemnation of such behavior. “Neither my campaign nor Francesca’s campaign have any intention of filing charges on this,” said Clancy.
